To fulfill God’s mission for Cassidy United Methodist Church, we support a variety of mission ministries. They include missions in our own community of Indian Springs, in Kingsport and the surrounding area, in the eastern and southern regions of North America, and outside North America.
Our goal is to support a variety of mission opportunities so that our entire congregation may participate.
Indian Springs Community
Pumpkin Patch ‚Äî Pumpkin Patch is a three week pumpkin sale during October for the community and the entire Kingsport area. During the Pumpkin Patch, Cassidy’s front lawn is a sea of orange in October.
Trunk or Treat ‚Äî The Indian Springs community is invited to “trick or treat” at Cassidy on Halloween night! Church families gather in the parking lot with decorated trunks to provide a safe, more wholesome atmosphere for children to gather their treats. Refreshments for all and door prizes add to the fun and excitement!
Indian Springs Community Mission Center ‚Äî The Mission Center, located at Sunnyside Baptist Church, is a non-profit organization that provides free food and clothes to those in need in the community and surrounding area. Cassidy is one of several local churches and civic organizations that financially support the Mission Center, donate food, and provide volunteers to work at the center. In addition to local donations, food and clothing is acquired from King Benevolence and Second Harvest Food Bank. The Center’s hours are Monday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday mornings from 10am to 1pm. The phone number is (423) 288-4241.
Interfaith Hospitality ‚Äî The Interfaith Hospitality Network of Kingsport provides a way for religious communities and people of faith to respond to the needs of their homeless neighbors. Cassidy serves as a support church providing meals, when scheduled, for ‘guests’ at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
Community United Methodist Church Terrific Tuesday Program — Every Tuesday evening Community UMC conducts a learning and fun time for the children in the Gibson Mill Road/Cloud Apartments area. Cassidy provides a simple evening meal for the children, youth, and workers on the 5th Tuesday of the month.
Habitat for Humanity ‚Äî Cassidy partners with this great organization to provide a hand “up” to deserving families. We have sponsored and built two Habitat homes, as well as participated in other Habitat home construction. Visit the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, Holston Habitat.
Red Bird Mission — For this mission located in Beverly, KY, we provide monetary gifts and items for a Socks & Mittens (and more) Tree during the Christmas season. We also collect Campbell Soup product bar codes for Education (redeemed for cash) and General Mills/Tyson Chicken Boxtops for Education. With the Boxtops for Education, the mission has collected enough to purchase mini-vans, teaching aids and sports, classroom and office equipment. Visit the Red Bird Mission web site for additional details about this mission.
Lighthouse Ministries — We support the Lighthouse Ministries in Elkhorn City with clothing, money, and work days.
Youth Mission Trip — The youth have an annual construction-related mission trip during the summer. Past mission trips have included Washington D.C.; Moorhead City, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Miracle Hill Ministries at Pumpkin Town, SC; where youth worked with the homeless, led a Vacation Bible School, and worked with disadvantaged children and youth.
Katrina Relief to the Mississippi Gulf Coast — Since 2006, three teams of men and women have traveled to Gulfport, MS to provide relief work for hurricane Katrina victims. During these trips, we have completed a variety of activities including: roof repair, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and other finishing work.
Holston Conference Mission Projects ‚Äî The Holston Conference Mission Team states, “It is our hope to assist those in need; whether sick, hungry, helpless, and hopeless. We want to encourage, inspire, and provide opportunities for a better life to those who need help.” Cassidy joins with more that 900 other churches in the Holston Conference – united in mission. Mission initiatives have included special offerings for Sudan, Flood Buckets, Teacher Kits, Health Kits, Hygiene Kits…
World Vision ‚Äî World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Cassidy collects a special offering in support of this organization through our ‘Love Loaves’.
United Methodist Women
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Cassidy has two active Circles that are part of the Kingsport District. The Josie Mackey Circle is an evening circle, meeting the second Tuesday every month at 7:00 PM. The Mary Martha Circle meets during the mornings, every second Monday of each month at 10:00 AM.
Circles participate in the missions of the Holston Conference as well as missions in the Indian Springs community. Circles hold monthly programs related to the United Methodist Women purpose, reading programs, fellowship and refreshments. All women are welcome to participate!
