The Season of Lent – March 1 – April 15, 2017
There are many chances for spiritual reflection and worship during the season of Lent. You are invited into a deeper walk with God. Please respond as the Holy Spirit directs.
Ash Wednesday Worship Service: following dinner on March 1, 2017. Join your church family in beginning the season of Lent together in worship.
On Sunday, February 26, you will receive a Lenten calendar as an insert in your Worship Bulletin. This simple guide provides a brief focus thought and scripture for reflection. We hope this will be a tool for experiencing the season of Lent.
Journey ‘Round Jerusalem:
For our children and preschoolers and their families, we are providing a Lenten kit that includes a centerpiece, stickers and child-friendly devotions for each day of Lent. Children will receive these at Sunday school, or through the church office.
Small Group offerings for Lent:
Christ Walk: A 40-Day Spiritual Fitness Program by Anna Fitch Courie. “What’s better than feeding your soul while developing healthy practices for your body and mind? Christ Walk outlines a 40-day program for individuals and groups to focus on improving physical health while engaging in spiritual and mental reflection and growth.” (amazon.com) Facilitated by Suzan Alley and the Congregational Care Team, you are invited to engage in a spiritual practice of self-care and accountability. Diet and fitness within the context of “caring for the temple” will be the core of this fun group. Materials – $15.00. Wednesdays, being March 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Seekers classroom. Call Suzan Alley at 423-292-4918 to register.
Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God: the Practice of Centering Prayer by J. David Muyskens. “Are you trying to do it all yourself? Rev. J. David Muyskens reminds us that what God seeks is relationship with us, a two-way communication. What relationship with God requires is very similar to what our earthly relationships require: openness, listening, focused time. One way to practice the skills needed for this relationship is centering prayer, a simple but deeply powerful prayer practice. In beautiful and accessible language, Muyskens invites us to spend time daily focusing our hearts on God, to find the power to be still and be reoriented to the One who is the Center of all.” (amazon.com). Facilitated by Margaret Deans. We will meet on Monday, February 27 at 5:45 p.m. to distribute the book and decide on best time for the group. Book – $11.00. Please call Margaret Deans at 276-698-0812 to register.
